Section 8. The Congress shall have the power 1. To lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts, and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts, and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
Article XVI The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
And, like constitutional slavery and constitutional prohibition, income taxes are a failed experiment and a moral travesty. Hopefully, Americans can change this one as well before it is too late.
Americans pay way (way!) more taxes than they did under British colonialism.
History is clear: eventually, every Big Government eats itself. The USSR is a great example of the kind of parasitism in which the parasite weakens its own host to the point of suicide.
You cannot continue to run up deficits the way the federal government does, and you cannot tax people to prosperity, and spend your way out of debt - especially with fiat paper money.
The host is already moribund. I do believe the USA is on its way to joining the USSR in the graveyard of Big Government.
One can only hope the people wake up before it is too late!
When the people who have capital and are capable of entrepreneurship and job creation begin bailing, that should be a signal that the cruise ship is headed for an iceburg.
It's not yet a hemorrhage, but the brain (and money) drain will turn into one unless things change.
